A fire in the Komsomolska coal mine in Antratsyt, Luhansk region, Ukraine, has been extinguished, according to the press service of the State Service for Mining Supervision and Industrial Safety.
Smoke began to form in the state-run mine as a result of a fire in its electrical cables. The press service said that a special inquiry panel has been created to determine how the fire began in the first place, Interfax reports.
Smoke was reported at the mine on Thursday at 6 a.m. There were 249 people in the mine at the time, 19 of whom were impacted by the smoke. All of the miners were safely evacuated to the surface while work in the mine was shut down.
The Ukrainian coal mining industry produced 42.7993 million metric tons of coal during the time period between January and June. The amount is 8.7104 million metric tons more than the original target for the time period and 2.097 million ahead of the target set for 2011, For-UA.com reports.
The enterprises produced 2.0555 million metric tons of coal in June, which is 0.7 percent ahead of the 2012 goal and 0.6 percent ahead of the target in 2011.
