Norilsk Nickel develops professional program with higher educational establishments

OJSC MMC Norilsk Nickel announced on Wednesday that it will begin the next phase of its corporate Professional Take-Off program in 15 higher educational establishments on June 15.

More than 400 students with three to four years of education in a technical field are selected each year to learn summer field experience at one of Norilsk’s divisions. The company launched a pilot of the program in 2010 with Siberian Federal University. Norilsk uses a methodology that attempts to find students who are motivated to continue working with the company after the internship.

All participants in the program receive reimbursement for transportation to and from the field experience location, catering, room and board, transportation and salary. In addition, students take part in sporting and cultural corporate events.

The salary students can expect to take for a month on the program in 2012-2013 is approximately $125.52. After graduating from their HEE, students who earn a good reputation during the program can work for Norilsk.

In 2011, 544 students took part in the program and 68 eventually became employees of Norilsk. The company also has a trainee program in which HEE graduates younger than 30 can receive training from an experienced worker. In 2011, 226 people participated in the trainee program and 67 were retained for employment thereafter.
