Fortescue has recently celebrated the graduation of its latest group from the Vocational Training and Employment Centre (VTEC) program. The ceremony took place in Perth, where 10 graduates were joined by their families and new colleagues.
The event featured a Welcome to Country led by Noongar Elder, Mr. Barry Winmar. One of the graduates, Elysia Douglas, expressed her appreciation for the program, saying, “It’s been an amazing experience to work alongside an incredible team who have made the journey so much more enjoyable and meaningful. I’m truly grateful for the trust and opportunities we have been given, and I’m excited for what’s ahead.”
Shelley Robertson, Fortescue’s Chief Operating Officer, spoke about the program’s impact: “Every VTEC graduation showcases the remarkable impact of this trailblazing program, driving generational change for First Nations Australians. By equipping graduates with lifelong skills, we are fostering sustainable careers in the resources sector and beyond.”
Since its inception in 2006, VTEC has facilitated full-time employment for over 1,500 First Nations Australians. The program is delivered across Western Australia in locations such as Perth, Busselton, Broome, Karratha, and Port Hedland. It underscores Fortescue’s commitment to supporting First Nations communities by creating pathways to success.
