Fortescue highlights Australia-China collaboration on green iron initiatives

Fortescue, an Australian iron ore company, recently used its official Twitter account to highlight a series of engagements with Chinese partners and government officials aimed at advancing green industry initiatives. The tweets from July 14 to July 16, 2025, detail collaborative efforts between Australia and China in the transition away from fossil fuels, particularly focusing on green iron and zero-emissions technology.

On July 14, Fortescue stated: ” Australia and China can lead the world off fossil fuels — starting with green iron. In Shanghai, Dr Forrest joined the Prime Minister and China’s steel giants to back the biggest industrial climate win we can deliver. We’ve built an industry together before — now let’s https://t.co/HtHhsW6koJ”.

The following day, on July 15, Fortescue referenced a major contract with a Chinese manufacturer for clean technology: “Real Zero in action! Last year, we signed a landmark contract with Chinese manufacturer @XCMGGroup to supply more than 100 zero emissions Heavy Mobile Equipment for our Pilbara operations. On July 16, Fortescue described participation in high-level talks in Beijing: “Big ideas need bold leadership. Dr Andrew Forrest joined the Prime Minister and Premier Li Qiang in Beijing for the Australia–China CEO Roundtable, where he advocated for the creation of a world-first green iron and steel supply corridor. This initiative would drive https://t.co/jmoGM9jZoX”.

These posts follow ongoing international efforts by both governments to reduce carbon emissions through technological innovation and cross-border cooperation. Fortescue has previously announced significant investments into renewable energy projects as part of its strategy to decarbonize mining operations.
