Fortescue, a prominent player in the mining and resources sector, recently shared updates on its environmental initiatives and technological advancements through social media posts. The company’s tweets highlighted their participation in international environmental conferences and the introduction of new technology aimed at reducing emissions.

On June 18, Fortescue expressed pride in contributing to the UN Ocean Conference held in Nice. The company emphasized the importance of practical solutions over mere rhetoric in addressing environmental challenges. In their tweet, they stated: “We were honoured to play our part in securing a decisive and ambitious outcome at the UN Ocean Conference in Nice.” They further stressed that “words won’t stop global warming or worsening pollution,” advocating for “green fuels and fit-for-purpose ocean rules.”

Two days later, on June 20, Fortescue announced the arrival of a prototype battery electric locomotive in Pilbara. This development is part of their strategy to achieve ‘Real Zero’ emissions across operations. In their announcement, they noted: “Innovation in motion. Our prototype battery electric locomotive has arrived in the Pilbara, purpose-built by Fortescue Zero to help drive Real Zero.” The company sees this as a significant step forward.

In another tweet posted shortly after, Fortescue reiterated this message with additional context about leadership involvement: “Innovation in motion. Our prototype battery electric locomotive has arrived in the Pilbara, purpose-built by Fortescue Zero to help drive Real Zero.” Ellie Coates, CEO of Fortescue, was mentioned as being integral to these efforts.
