Fortescue has announced a commitment of $600,000 over three years to support Hedland Senior High School. The funding is intended to enhance education and engagement programs aimed at empowering local youth, strengthening regional capabilities, and deepening First Nations engagement.
The investment will cover a variety of initiatives, including Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) programs for students in Years 7 to 12. It will also contribute to improvements in the school’s technology hub and support culturally respectful initiatives that celebrate First Nations identity and connection to Country.
Warren Fish, Fortescue’s Director Approvals, Communities and Environment, expressed that the partnership demonstrates Fortescue’s dedication to nurturing local talent and building strong communities. “We’re proud to work alongside Hedland Senior High School to deliver lasting outcomes for students and families across the Pilbara,” he stated. “This partnership is about unlocking opportunities for all students to thrive – in the classroom and beyond.”
The funding aims to support curriculum delivery, staff development, infrastructure upgrades including new equipment, and broader access to real-world STEAM experiences.
Michael Ciccotosto, Principal of Hedland Senior High School, acknowledged the benefit of Fortescue’s sponsorship. “With Fortescue’s assistance, we can realise our ambitions in STEAM programs, technology hub enhancements, and Aboriginal engagement,” he said. He noted that this has significantly enhanced student engagement through an integrated approach to learning.
This initiative is part of Fortescue’s larger effort towards supporting education, training, and employment pathways for young people across the Pilbara region.
